On May 20, 2010, TNDC hosted its Annual Birthday Dinner celebration. Co-Hosts Charles and Paola Casey and Mistress of Ceremony Cheryl Jennings of ABC7 News led a rousing evening featuring entertainment by The Robert Vickers Orchestra and Beach Blanket Babylon singing "Happy Birthday" in celebration of 29 years of building homes and hope in the Tenderloin neighborhood and surrounding San Francisco neighborhoods.
Each year, TNDC invites supporters for an evening of celebration, music, dancing, birthday cake and the annual presentation of the Brother Kelly Cullen Community Award. Named for TNDC’s founder and former Executive Director, the Brother Kelly Cullen Award is given to an individual who shows extraordinary community spirit and compassion in providing services to San Francisco’s poorest and neediest residents. This year’s recipient is Brad Paul. In the 1980s, Brad Paul was a neighborhood activist whose efforts in leading the North of Market Planning Coalition were instrumental in negotiating one of the nation’s first Community Benefits Agreement and advocating for the downzoning of the Tenderloin.
“Brad has earned this award as throughout his career, including his stint as Vice Mayor under Art Agnos and later as Program Officer of the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr., Fund, the Tenderloin has held a special place in his heart,” said TNDC Executive Director Don Falk. "TNDC is proud to recognize Brad Paul’s work on behalf of the Tenderloin neighborhood.
We hope to see you at next year's celebration!
