ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR

THE POSITION

The Activities Coordinator will serve under the direct supervision of the Property Administrator, and working in coordination with the Community Organizer Manager. The Activities Coordinator will work with the elderly population in TNDC’s senior buildings. This position is responsible for planning, preparing and leading an activities program and assisting TNDC’s community organizing efforts within TNDC's senior population.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Activities Coordination

  1. Prepare, direct and participate in a variety of service programs for residents in multiple properties, such as films, programs, arts and crafts, games, gardening and outings.
  2. Interview/survey residents to determine recreational needs.
  3. Encourage resident participation in the recreational programs.
  4. Provide announcements of events and programs that will be included in the master calendar.
  5. Work with agencies that serve as resources for the elderly residents.
  6. Ensure that activities stay within the monthly budget.
  7. Contact vendors for supplies and services.
  8. Complete preparation work for resident activities (this may include but not be limited to preparing table settings, serve already prepared meals and coffee).
  9. Collect information for statistical reports.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Community Organizing

  1. Provide technical assistance and meeting and workshop facilitation to resident-led groups and associations.
  2. Conduct appropriate leadership development activities with TNDC’s senior residents base such as workshops, training, and one-on-ones.
  3. Lead outreach within TNDC’s senior resident base around TNDC’s community garden and other ongoing efforts and activities focused on bringing resident-led change to the neighborhood.
  4. Help strengthen a TNDC senior resident voice that can organize members of the community and advocate for the needs of Tenderloin people.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to work with, and sensitivity to, an elderly, diverse, low-income, multi-ethnic population.
  • Dependability, initiative and follow-through.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convince and move seniors to take action or participate in activities
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations; possess an even temperament and strong interpersonal and people skills.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently.
  • Ability to multi-task and self-manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings
  • Ability to understand and communicate the critical needs of TNDC’s low-income senior community.
  • Experience in organizing a diverse population of seniors.
  • Experience conducting leadership training.
  • Demonstrated experience building community.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-2 years experience in Activities Coordination and Community Organizing (as defined under Essential Duties above)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with seniors.
  • Capacity in multi-lingual, such as Russian, Cantonese, Korean, Tagalog.

SALARY
$32,000 - $35,000 (DOE) plus excellent benefits
