THE POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the overall functioning of TNDC’s Tenderloin After-School Program (TASP), a community-based youth center serving children between the ages of 5 and 18. The program creatively addresses the educational and recreational needs of the participants by incorporating innovative, culturally diverse programming in all activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: overall planning and supervision of daily programming and operations in collaboration with the other Program Coordinator; design and implementation of dynamic art and science programs; supervision of 3 or more entry-level part-time staff; planning, coordination, and implementation of fun, exciting field trips year-round; planning and assisting with annual College Tour for teen participants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program development and implementation for daily and special programming, in collaboration with other Program Coordinator around theme days and complementary learning activities, including art and science/tech programming.
- Supervise 3 entry-level, part-time staff; site supervisor for MYEEP youth employment placements.
- Design and implement cultural activities.
- Maintain daily participant sign in sheet, weekly statistics, and tabulate data.
- Submit written and oral reports to the TASP Program Manager as directed
- Represent the program and sometimes the agency to the public.
- Participate in community outreach efforts.
- Attend all required meetings, including Board meetings if necessary.
- Assist in fund raising efforts as needed.
- Upon occasion, serve as lead staff for Friday Teen Night activities.
- ossibility of leading a cultural festival that serves as a youth leadership development activity for teen participants.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to bring strong, sustained enthusiasm to working with children and youth.
- Ability to work with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages 5-18.
- Demonstrated experience designing/implementing enrichment activities for grades K-12.
- Ability to thrive in high-energy, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent skills in time management, organization, planning and project management, and multi-tasking.
- Strong problem solving skills, flexibility, and initiative.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups of people, individuals, and agencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally diverse programs for youth.
- Excellent team building skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- B.A. in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Recreation, or related field.
- Demonstrated minimum 3 years experience working with low-income, urban youth.
- Demonstrated minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity and resourcefulness in youth programming.
- Strong knowledge of Mac and PC systems and knowledge of computer-based enrichment programming. Proficient with MS Word and Outlook.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with diverse learning styles and teaching styles.
- Experience implementing youth leadership development programming.
- Familiarity with youth and family resources.
