TASP PROGRAM COORDINATOR

THE POSITION

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the overall functioning of the Tenderloin After-School Program (TASP), a community-based youth center serving children between the ages of 5 and 18. The program creatively addresses the educational and recreational needs of the participants by incorporating innovative, culturally diverse programming in all activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: overall planning and supervision of daily programming and operations in collaboration with the other Program Coordinator; design and implementation of dynamic art and science programs; intensive involvement in academic support program, including School Liaison responsibilities; planning, coordination, and implementation of fun, exciting field trips year-round; overall coordination of volunteer program, including volunteer trainings, recruitment, retention.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Program development and implementation in collaboration with other Program Coordinator, including Wednesday academic Teen Nights.
  2. Development and implementation of program policies and procedures in collaboration with other Program Coordinator.
  3. Design and implement arts and/or science curriculum.
  4. Design and implement cultural activities program.
  5. Oversee the volunteer program which includes volunteer recruitment, training, and retention, under supervision of Program Manager.
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer files.
  7. Prepare and oversee monthly volunteer schedule.
  8. Disseminate program information to volunteers.
  9. Respond to volunteer interest inquiries by providing information about TASP and TNDC policies and requirements.
  10. Coordinate regular volunteer meetings.
  11. Represent the program and sometimes the agency to the public.
  12. Participate in community outreach efforts.
  13. Attend all required meetings, including Board meetings if necessary.
  14. Assist in fund raising efforts as needed.
  15. Submit written and oral reports to the TASP Program Manager as directed.
  16. Maintain accurate and up-to-date participant files.
  17. Maintain daily participant sign in sheet, weekly statistics, and tabulate data.
  18. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to work with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with diverse groups of people, individuals, and agencies.
  • Ability to thrive in high-energy, fast-paced environment; excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally diverse programs for youth.

  • Positive energy and great enthusiasm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. in Early Childhood Development, Social Work, Counseling, Recreation, or related field.
  • Demonstrated minimum 3 years experience working with low-income, urban youth.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English).
  • Working knowledge of Mac and PC systems. Proficient with MS Word and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and resourcefulness in youth programming.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience negotiating w/public school systems.
  • Strong academic skills.
  • Familiarity with San Francisco youth and family resources.
  • Familiarity with diverse learning styles and test-taking strategies.
  • M.A. in Education or related field.

SALARY
$33,000 to $36,000 DOE. Plus excellent benefits package.
