One of TNDC's most important tasks is to join with other nonprofits in providing additional services to residents of the neighborhood and to host events that raise community awareness of TNDC's work in the broader San Francisco community. Among the events are:
TNDC's Celebrity Pool Toss
Once a year the Phoenix Hotel in the Tenderloin goes a bit mad. Celebrities, local and national have participated by putting themselves up for bid for a toss into the pool. It's an evening of great fun around the pool with local restaurants providing great food, and its all about raising money for kids in the Tenderloin and raising awareness in San Francisco of the important work of TNDC. Stars like Robin Williams and local celebrities and personalities such as the SF Police Captain Kevin Dillion, San Francisco Magazine Publisher Steven Dinkelspiel, craigslist.org Founder Craig Newmark, San Francisco Foundation CEO Dr. Sandra Hernandez and sports stars are among the many who have taken the plunge to help us raise money and publicize our work. Corporate sponsors make the event possible. Click here for Photos from 2006 and 2007!
TNDC's Annual Birthday Bash
TNDC's ability to serve its tenants and keep rents low is very much dependent on our donors-individuals, foundations and corporations. The annual dinner attracts more than 600 guests each year and allows us to say thank you, report on the year’s progress in a meaningful program and generally have a fun social evening. Of course, it is also a major fundraiser.
Home Cookin'
Think of it as doing well by eating well. Or, put another way – comfort food with a cause. TNDC's Home Cookin’ benefit brings together restaurants throughout the Center City of San Francisco for the benefit of TNDC. In 2006, TNDC kicked off its first Home Cookin' event with some of the finest restaurants on board (like Bambudhha Lounge, Café Andrée, Cortez, Farmer Brown, Juni Teppan and Sushi Bar, Maharani, MoMo's, Saha, Tangerine and Zingari Ristorante) and San Francisco’s best-known host Harry Denton of The Starlight Room as Event Chair. Because of its success, Home Cookin´ is bound to be a “must eat” on everyone’s calendar each year. “It’s a delicious way to donate,” says TNDC Executive Director Donald S. Falk. “San Franciscans love discovering new restaurants. Home Cookin’ is a perfect chance to discover the culinary creativity of the area and lend a helping hand.”
