Welcoming Walter Harris as TNDC's Next CEO
Dear Friends of TNDC,
Earlier this year I, on behalf of the TNDC Board, shared with you the bittersweet news that Don Falk was stepping down from his role as CEO. We feel immense gratitude for Don’s service over the last 27 years. Because of Don’s leadership, TNDC is positioned to make an even larger impact in San Francisco.
Now after several months of searching, I am pleased to announce that Walter Harris will join TNDC as our next CEO, effective September 30, 2021. Walter is a dynamic and compassionate leader with more than 25 years of senior executive-level experience in the private and public sectors. In addition, Walter brings a demonstrated track record of innovative leadership in prominent organizations like Kaiser Permanente, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
With an incredible commitment to mission-based work and a deep understanding of the connection between housing and a person’s health and well-being, Walter is poised to advance our work across Homes, Health, and Voice.
As CEO of TNDC, I will serve as a leader, live a balanced life, apply ethical principles to make a significant difference, and leverage the power of people and community in creating transformational change,” said Walter Harris, TNDC’s new CEO.
As we embrace this time of transition for TNDC and the nation, we recognize the challenges alongside the hope and opportunity. We’re in a pivotal moment where more and more of us are painfully aware of the unjust systems and racially disparate outcomes affecting us. A time where accessing basic human needs like housing, food, and connection is a struggle—but it doesn’t have to be. Our community will continue to work toward a future where people are resourced and thriving on their own terms. We’re enthusiastic that with Walter’s leadership, this future is one step closer.
As Don prepares to pass the torch to Walter, the TNDC Board looks to you—our friends, partners, tenants, staff, and community members—to welcome Walter and help shape the next chapter of TNDC.
