Frequently Asked Questions
We’re so excited to cannonball into a new virtual reality with you on Thursday, 10/14!
We hope you’re excited too, but we know you may have a few questions first! Here’s everything you need to know so you have the most splashtastic virtual reality experience.
No, it’s not Zoom! This year’s Pool Toss is virtual, but unlike other events these days, it’ll be interactive, immersive, and you’ll have full control over where you go and what you do as an avatar or “bot” (see example below).
Once you register and enter the event, you’ll be transported to a simulated venue with a pool, bar, interactive booths, and seating much like the in-person Pool Toss. You’ll navigate your bot through the venue with your keyboard’s arrow keys. You’ll be able to navigate to someone you know and start a video chat, or enter a Conversation Area to video chat with multiple people at the same time! You’ll also have a chance to watch a live magician and mixologist, and more!
If you’re a gamer, this will all feel very familiar. If this is new for you and feels a bit intimidating, don’t worry, it’s easy to navigate and there will be plenty of tech support!
Nothing! One of the perks of virtual reality is that we can pack in as many people in one place as we like. So, invite your friends, your co-workers, and your pet octopus!
The entire event is only one hour from 4-5 pm. So, make sure to come on time so you can explore all the Pool Toss has to offer!
On Thursday, 10/14 there will be a link posted on www.tndc.org/pool-toss and at 4 pm it’ll be LIVE for you to enter the event.
Our platform, EXVO, will ask for you to register with your name and email, then email you an Event Key, and boom, you’ll be in the Pool Toss! Instructions on navigation will be provided when you enter.
If you can’t find the email with the Event Key, make sure to check your junk or spam folder just in case.
Great question! Virtual reality can be pretty complex, so you’ll need to use a laptop or desktop rather than your mobile device or tablet. We recommend that you use Google Chrome but other web browsers will work as well.
If you have an older computer or a weak Wi-Fi connection, the virtual reality experience might be less smooth.
This virtual reality experience is customizable so you can choose whether or not you want your camera on! When you first register, the instructions will ask you to upload a photo and logo for your avatar or “bot” (see example below) to help identify you to others at the event. You can upload any photo you’d like, but both images are optional! You will also be asked to test your camera and mic when you first sign in.
When a fellow bot—maybe a friend or co-worker you haven’t seen in a while—walks up to you, you’ll be able to chat and turn your camera on or off as you please.
It’s easy! You’ll use the arrow keys on your keyboard or you can click the arrows on screen. It might feel strange at first, but once you get going it’s fun!
You can even walk through the furniture, but don’t worry about falling into the pool—it’s impossible!
We’re well equipped to help you navigate any questions or tech needs you have! There will be a 24/7 live chat at the event for tech support and bots with “Ask Me” signs if you have any general questions about the Pool Toss or TNDC.
For a quick fix, simply refresh your page and it’ll log you back in at the event entrance. Easy!
