TNDC Tenderloin People’s Garden
The Tenderloin neighborhood is one of the only neighborhoods in San Francisco without a full service grocery store making access to fresh, affordable food a daily struggle for the many low-income residents of the Tenderloin.
Located at the corner of Larkin and McAllister, the TNDC Tenderloin People’s Garden was created as part of TNDC’s work for food justice, which promotes a more equitable food system that prioritizes all people’s access to the basic human right of healthy food. The People’s Garden is a volunteer-led urban farm that brings people of all ages and ethnicities together to grow and harvest free fruits, vegetables and herbs for our residents.

Join us today to create a solution to hunger in the Tenderloin!
TNDC’s Tenderloin People’s Garden began in 2010 with the transformation of a once vacant lot into a vibrant and vital community garden near City Hall. We’ve brought together hundreds of volunteers of all ages and ethnicities, to grow food and community. Our garden has harvested over 2,500 lbs of food, distributed to 400 people.
There is always work to be done at the People’s Garden and volunteers are always welcome. To get involved:
- Volunteer during open hours. The People’s Garden is regularly staffed Monday – Friday. Our schedule is below.
- Helping us harvest and distribute food. Every other Wednesday is our regular harvest and volunteer day. Call or email for more details.
