Volunteer

At Our Tenderloin After-School Program

If you have a few hours during the week and want to inspire young minds, then volunteering at TNDC’s After-School Program (TASP) is for you! The Center serves youth between the ages of 5 and 18 years old and is a safe, supportive space for kids. TASP offers a range of free educational, cultural, artistic, and physical activities. The program is especially eager to enlist volunteers who have strong academic skills to provide tutoring in all subjects—like reading, math, science, and history. TASP operates from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays. We have extended hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for teen homework sessions. Please note that volunteers must make a minimum six month commitment and work between 4-6 hours every month. A background check is also required.

If you’re interested in volunteering, Laura Choe, Program Manager, at (415) 358-3908 or lchoe@tndc.org for more information.

Garden VolunteerAt Our Community Garden

There is always work to be done at the People’s Garden and volunteers are always welcome. We can always use help in the following areas:

  • Joining our Food Justice Campaign Committee. Our committee meets regularly to work on TNDC’s Food Justice Campaign and is made up of different volunteers and activists from around the City.
  • Helping us harvest and distribute food. Every other Wednesday is our regular harvest and volunteer day. Call or email for more details.
  • Volunteering during open hours. The People’s Garden is regularly staffed Monday – Friday. Our schedule is below.

People’s Garden Volunteer Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 10am – 12pm, Tuesday and Thursday: 3pm – 5pm

To get involved please contact Lorenzo Listana, Community Organizer, (415) 358-3925  or llistana@tndc.org

Other Volunteer Opportunities

If you’d like to do a one-day project or ongoing work in our offices or spend a day upgrading one of our buildings under the direction of our building maintenance team, these opportunities are also sometimes available. The holiday season is always a busy time and there is always something happening. Consider helping stuff and distribute food bags in November and December to our residents.

If you’re interested in any of the volunteer opportunities mentioned above, contact Julie Doherty at (415) 358-3965 or jdoherty@tndc.org for more information.
