On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, TNDC and the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) cut the ribbon on 730 Stanyan, a new residence offering 160 new affordable homes on the site of a former McDonald's at the corner of Haight and Stanyan Streets. The eight-story community on the edge of Golden Gate Park provides homes for people with low incomes in San Francisco, including families, formerly unhoused families, and Transitional Aged Youth (TAY). Twenty-four percent of the units have gone or will go to people who live in District 5-- an anti-displacement measure that helps San Franciscans remain in the neighborhood they know and love.
With onsite social workers and other services, tenants will have a built-in support network to help them adjust to their new home, feel welcome, and remain stably housed. The building offers space for Larkin Street Youth Services for case management, Code Tenderloin for workforce development, and the Felton Institute for early childcare and education programming. Together, these amenities create a hub that serves both residents and the broader Haight-Ashbury community.
Bringing 730 Stanyan to life required intense collaboration among nonprofit organizations, public agencies, designers, builders, funders, and community partners. TNDC and CCDC worked together as co-developers, alongside design partners OMA and Y.A. Studio, and construction partners Cahill Contractors and Hercules Construction, to transform a site once known for burgers and fries into a place where hundreds of San Franciscans can build stable futures. As the city continues to address its housing crisis, 730 Stanyan demonstrates what is possible when organizations and communities come together around a shared vision of affordable housing, supportive services, and long-term neighborhood investment.
