2012 Birthday Dinner Raises $300,000

TNDC’s 31st Annual Birthday Dinner Raises $300,000 to build homes and hope in the Tenderloin.

On May 9, 2012, TNDC celebrated 31 years of building homes and hope in the Tenderloin and beyond. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, supporters and more than 500 guests, we raised $300,000 for the lowest-income residents of our city.

Hear Executive Director, Don Falk’s remarks from the dinner in the video below:

The evening was hosted by Cheryl Jennings, News Anchor ABC7/KGO TV, featured music by the Robert Vickers Orchestra, along with the presentation of the Bro. Kelly Cullen Community Service Award, and a special birthday toast sung by Beach Blanket Babylon.

Mimi Yee
Owner of Manor House Restuarant

As the owner of Manor House Restaurant, located on the ground floor of TNDC’s Antonia Manor at the corner of Turk and Jones Streets, Mimi serves hundreds of affordable meals to Tenderloin residents six days a week. The home-style cooking, generous portions and remarkably low prices have made Manor House a Tenderloin institution and a crucial source of food security. Without Mimi, many of the TL’s senior and disabled residents would be much hungrier.

“Cheap, tasty, hot food, great staff and even better clientele. It feels like a big family here. A lot of that has to do with Mimi and her staff and how they treat EVERYONE with dignity and respect.” – John A., Customer and Yelp Reviewer

Mimi’s restaurant not only serves healthy, low-cost meals, but provides a community gathering place for those living alone in SROs. Without Manor House in the neighborhood, many low-income residents would have one less place to gather, socialize, share a meal and leave with money in their pockets.
