Biography

Shabren Harvey-Smith, originally from Pennsylvania, is a seasoned Licensed Clinical Social Worker with nearly 15 years of experience in leadership and management within the fields of mental health, community-based services, and hospital administration across Southern and Northern California. Currently, she serves as the Director of Medical Social Services at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, where she oversees a diverse team of professionals dedicated to providing exceptional patient care.

In addition to her role at UCSF, Shabren maintains a private practice and co-founded Smith Counseling & Consulting, LLC. Her expertise extends to training and coaching for community-based organizations, helping to enhance their service delivery and impact.

Shabren holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Her professional affiliations include membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Society for Social Work Leaders in Health Care, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Shabren is also an active community member and is grateful for the opportunity to serve on the TNDC Board, contributing to sustainable community-based work that benefits people in meaningful ways.

Beyond her professional achievements, Shabren is a dedicated wife and mother of two, who enjoys traveling and spending time with her family
