Healthy Aging

Our Healthy Aging work grew out of a belief that seniors should have the resources for living healthy and independent lives on their own terms.

In several of our senior buildings, we offer a variety of resources for the vibrant community of seniors living there. Activities are designed to foster a sense of community and reduce isolation, strengthen the body and mind, and share valuable information and tips for aging in place. Our Healthy Aging team organizes weekly fitness classes, brain exercises, social coffee hours, and games; monthly garden tours, presentations on rotating themes, food demonstrations hosted by the Food & Nutrition team, and music for health; and quarterly newsletters and field trips.

Our Healthy Aging staff represents TNDC's values of Excellence and Integrity in their evidence-based workshops designed specifically for seniors. The workshops include topics such as, Healthier Living (a chronic disease management program), A Matter of Balance (designed to prevent falls), Diabetes Education Empowerment Program, Walk with Ease, Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention, and Bingocize (a combination of exercise, education, and bingo to lower health issues).

Healthy Aging is guided by Harm-Reduction and Trauma-Informed models, principles of Cultural Humility (see Our Approach), and the TNDC values of Collaboration, Equity, Excellence, Inclusion, and Integrity. The team is a core part of our Health & Wellness program housed in the Tenant & Community Services Department.
