TNDC ‘s 35th Anniversary: Celebrating a San Francisco for Everyone
As part of our 35th year observation, TNDC is diving into our archives and compiling our history to date! You can read our magazine-style document online at: www.tndc.org/tndc-history
A pioneer in the supportive housing movement, TNDC evolved out of the vision of “The Five Musketeers,” who helped launch the organization with the acquisition of one run-down single-room occupancy hotel.
What began in the early 1980s as a grassroots response to rapid commercial development and displacement of Tenderloin residents – grew to include a long-term strategy to preserve the neighborhood’s affordable housing stock and residential character.
Since then, TNDC has become a trusted and nationally recognized institution working on behalf of low-income people. We take a comprehensive approach to community development that goes beyond the bricks and mortar.
Every day, TNDC is doing something that sounds impossible: we are increasing the supply of quality housing that’s affordable for people who are struggling to make ends meet. Together, we are creating genuine
community that keeps San Francisco the diverse, vibrant city we all love.
