Building New Stories in the TL at 555 Larkin

Dated 6.16.2021

Next door to the home of the TNDC Pool Toss (psst...it’s the Phoenix Hotel!), we’re moving quickly on the construction of 555 Larkin—future home of approximately 260 people!

With our community’s commitment to affordable housing, we are transforming the corner of Turk and Larkin into a beautiful new building with studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. For the many San Francisco families who are often crammed into small spaces due to low incomes, the larger apartments are a much needed resource.

You may also recognize this corner as the iconic Kahn & Keville tire shop. With its retro marquee sporting quotes from people like Maya Angelou, Paul Simon, and Voltaire, the site was a beloved part of the Tenderloin. To honor the site’s legacy, we will restore the original marquee to the building’s courtyard and more ideas for paying homage to the sign are floating around. We’ll keep you posted!

As we work together on new buildings like 555 Larkin, TNDC strives for more innovative ways to approach Homes through the lens of Health and Voice. This means integrating more resources to support tenant health and wellness, such as including a rooftop urban farm, a ground-floor space that will serve the neighborhood, and sustainability features that benefit all of us.

We look forward to working with tenants as they move in next year and start building their own unique community at 555 Larkin. We're thankful you’ll be alongside us as we invest in our neighbors’ and San Francisco's future!

A special thanks to our project partners, David Baker & Associates, James E. Roberts-Obayashi Corporation, Regent Construction Management, and California Housing Partnership
