Ellis Gardens

Ellis Gardens, formerly known as 350 Ellis Street, is located in the heart of the Tenderloin and nearly adjacent to the GLIDE Foundation. Ellis Gardens is a 96-unit high-rise apartment building built in 1970, and was rehabilitated from 2016 to 2019 as part of the citywide Rental Assistance Demonstration (or “RAD”) portfolio. Ellis Gardens is a joint-venture of TNDC and Glide Community Housing.

The building features 72 studio and 24 one-bedroom apartments. for seniors and adults with developmental disabilities making 50% AMI or less.

Our renovation work included a new community room and kitchen; two new social work offices; two new property management offices; new front and rear gardens; a new tenant lounge; upgraded plumbing; new kitchen appliances, flooring, cabinets, and bathroom fixtures in each home; greater energy efficiency, including solar PV; and fire and life safety systems. Precita Eyes Muralists painted a mural on the building honoring the Tenderloin’s legacy of African-American jazz, the struggles for LGBTQ rights, local Asian culture, and the neighborhood’s low-income residents.

With resident feedback, we have returned the building to its original name from 1970—Ellis Gardens.
